Introduction to Epidemiology and Research Methods
Prof. Liat Lerner Geva Faculty of Medicine - Disaster Management
Epidemiology has become an increasingly essential approach in both public health and clinical practice. Epidemiology is the basic science of disease prevention and is used to identify risk factors for disease in the population while outlining ways to reduce these factors. Epidemiology is the basis for clinical decision making and health policy planning and implementation. Quantitative Research Methods are the tools for accurate data collecting as basis for decision making regarding clinical aspects and aspects of public health and health policy. Knowledge of research methods and understanding the results is the foundation for making informed decisions. This course is designed to teach the basic principles, terminology and methods together with the possible applications to public health and clinical practice.

Biostatistics
The aim of the course is to learn, and advanced and multi-dimensional data analysis. The course will expose to the importance and practice of the transition from univariate analysis to multivariable analysis, using methods for adjustments and multivariable models that are in use in health studies in general and public health research in particular. This task is founded on the understanding of risk factors and interfering factors and the strengths and limitations of each model. At the end of this course, it is expected, that the students, will be able to critically conduct full analysis of a database according to a specific research question and hypothesis and present a compatible statistical prediction model.
