Biography

Professor Yariv Gerber has been appointed as Head of the School of Public Health at Tel Aviv University in September 2020. Previously, he served as Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine from 2015-2019 and Director of the Master’s Programs in Public Health (MPH) from 2017-2019. Prof. Gerber also chaired the Thesis Committee in the SPH from 2011-2013.

 

Prof. Gerber obtained his Bachelor's degree (cum laude) in Physical Education and Sport Sciences from Wingate College in 1997, and subsequently earned his PhD degree (direct track) in Epidemiology at Tel Aviv University in 2003. After the completion of his PhD, he joined the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine (Rochester, Minnesota), for a postdoctoral training in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology. In 2006, he returned to Tel Aviv University and joined the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine as a Senior Faculty member. Dr. Gerber was promoted to Associate Professor of Epidemiology in 2013 and to Full Professor in 2016. He also holds the rank of Adjunct Professor of Epidemiology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. 

 

During the last decade, Prof. Gerber has been associated with several research groups, including:

  1. The Israel Study Group on First Acute Myocardial Infarction.
  2. The Israeli Ischemic Heart Disease Project.
  3. Acute Coronary Syndrome Israeli Survey (ACSIS).
  4. Cardiovascular Disease Surveillance in Olmsted County, Minnesota.
  5. Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study. 
  6. The Israeli Longitudinal Study on Aging (ILSA).

 

Prof. Gerber has co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers (see publications) and has been the recipient of several prestigious competitive research grants in Israel and abroad.
