ד"ר סיגל פורטנוי הצטרפה לחוג לריפוי בעיסוק בבית הספר למקצועות הבריאות באוקטובר 2012. ד"ר פורטנוי היא בוגרת הפקולטה להנדסה באוניברסיטת תל אביב במחלקות הנדסת חשמל ואלקטרוניקה (B.Sc.) והנדסה ביו-רפואית (M.Sc. בהצטיינות ו-Ph.D.). במהלך לימודיה המתקדמים קיבלה ד"ר פורטנוי מלגת הצטיינות מהפקולטה להנדסה וכן זכתה בפרס ARUP בעבור תרומה חדשנית בתחום ההנדסה הביו-רפואית היישומית.

 

עבודותיה של ד"ר פורטנוי פורסמו בכתבי עת מובילים בתחום, כגון Annals of Biomedical Engineering ,Journal of Biomechanics ,Gait & Posture בתחום של ביו-מכניקה של רקמות רכות בגוף תחת עומסים פיזיולוגיים.

 

ד"ר פורטנוי חוקרת את הגורמים הביומכניים המשפיעים על התפקוד של אנשים הסובלים מליקויים מוטורים בעקבות פגיעה או מחלה נויירולוגית או אורטופדית באמצעות כימות מדדים קינמטיים, קינטיים ורישום פעילות שרירית. המודלים והטכנולוגיות שיפותחו במעבדה ישמשו לניטור וטיפול שיקומי שינתן למטופל בבית או בקליניקה.
