Title:
The multifaceted role of DNMT3A in human health and disease
Abstract: The DNA methyltransferase DNMT3A is mostly known as the blood system tumor suppressor, since somatic mutations in DNMT3A are frequently found in hematological malignancies. However, heterozygous germline DNMT3A mutations lead to Tatton-Brown-Rahman Syndrome (TBRS), a disorder characterized by overgrowth, developmental delay, and obesity. How DNMT3A drives its tumor suppressor role in the blood compartment, and whether this role is linked to its role in TBRS is unknown. My talk will address those questions and describe how a rare disease can be used as a model to address questions relevant to us all.
